Dennis Leo Rice, 64, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 in Richland, WA. He was born July 28, 1952 in Flandreau, SD to Leo and Cecilia (Sauer) Rice. Dennis graduated from Flandreau High School in 1970. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1970 and served aboard the Nimitz and Eisenhower. After his discharge in 1976, he studied engineering at Central Virginia Community College. Dennis worked at the Newport News Shipyard and in nuclear plants throughout the continental United States and in Chile and he recently retired.


Dennis is survived by his parents, Leo and Cecilia, Flandreau; six siblings, Patty Rice, Brookings; Paul (Carol), Fort Dodge, IA; Dale (Delores), Mitchell, SD; Teresa (Stephen Brady)) Nelson, Flandreau; Wayne (Vicki), Horace, ND; Mae (Curt) Mohror, Flandreau; 19 nieces and nephews and 23 great-nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by an infant sister Betty Ann.


Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Monday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7 p.m. rosary.
