David was born at Sioux Falls on August 17, 1949 to Albert and Anita (Carlson) Powers. He was raised on a farm NE of Trent, SD and received most of his education at Trent and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1967. He worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis and then a Dairy Queen in Sioux Falls before entering the US Army where he served for 9 years. He married Hae Suk Yi in South Korea in 1973. He was stationed in South Korea and Germany and was a Nike/Hercules Guidance Technician. After being honorably discharged, Dave moved to Lubbock, TX and worked for Texas Instrument and then as a clerk at the US Post Office. He later transferred to Lawrence, KS where he retired from after a total of 27 years with the post office and returned to Trent.  David was a Radio Control Car Enthusiast for decades. A music lover he regularly sang karaoke and performed with a group called the "Human Jukebox" for the last few years.

Dave is survived by three children: Marcia (Duk) Kim, Cedar Park, TX; Martin (Gladys); Lawrence, KS; and Mark, Austin, TX; nine grandchildren: Alicia, Dylan, Alexandra, Dean, Larissa, Arianna, Zaria, Aldus, and Liliana; and two brothers: Thomas, Renner, SD; and Michael (Cari Jo), Pahrump, NV. David was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Anita.

Public visitation without the family present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, July 17, 2020 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
