Obituary

David W. DeMarteleare, 71, of Elkton passed away, Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at his home in Elkton. David was born on August 16, 1950 in Hendricks, MN to Melvin and Betty Lou (Hegerfeld) DeMarteleare. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1968 after which he worked on the interstate construction. Dave entered the US Army and was stationed in Germany until his discharge. He returned to Elkton and started trucking, hauling livestock. David was married to Laureen Christensen in 1977  and they welcomed two daughters, Karmen and Karri. Dave started working for Midwest Coast Transportation (CFI) as an owner/operator of DeMarteleare Trucking on April 14, 1977. Dave was united in marriage to Diane Strom on June 29th, 1996 in Elkton. Through the last 26 years Dave and Diane created a life full of memories together with their children and grandchildren.
David was an active member of the American Legion. This spring Dave achieved 50 years of membership with the legion. He spent his time enjoying NASCAR (especially Dale Earnhardt Sr), fishing with his family, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Dave was a member of the United Parish of Elkton. He was excitingly waiting for the birth of a great-granddaughter in October.
David is survived by his wife, Diane, Children, Karmen (Darin) Groos, Sioux Falls, SD; Karri (Brandon) DeMarteleare, Edmond, OK; Donnie (April) Strom, Brookings; Dustin Strom, Brookings; Darren (Sarah) Strom, Mankato, MN; Michelle Patino, Sturgis, SD; Brandy (Kyle) Tschetter, Brandon, SD; Daughter-in-law Amber (Brian) Mogler, Brookings, SD; Mother-in-law, Mavis Verschelde, Ivanhoe, MN; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; 4 siblings, Georgia Lang, Gillette, WY; Keith (Linda) DeMarteleare, Lake Preston, SD; Kevin (Peggy Sue) DeMarteleare, Sioux Falls; and Pennie (Tom) Skime, Elkton, SD. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Monica, son, Donald Strom Jr., parents, sister, Michelle, brother-in-law, Dean Lang and nephews Travis Stuefen and Dave Rearick.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, August 1, 2022 at United Parish of Elkton with burial in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm with a prayer service at 5:00 pm at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton.
