Obituary

Curtis F. Weigel, 77, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at his home in Flandreau. Curtis was born on December 16, 1943 at Flandreau to Rudy and Estella Hjorth Hagen Weigel. Curt attended Flandreau Public School and graduated from FHS in the class of 1962. He married his classmate Linda Ockenga on April 6, 1963 in Flandreau. He attended South Dakota State College at Brookings for 2 years and then attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls. Curt worked at Raven Industries welding & machine shop division while in Sioux Falls and commuted to Flandreau to Rudy's Welding and Machineshop. Curt and Linda returned to Flandreau in 1971 to raise their family and to manage Rudy's Welding and Machine Shop for his father. Curt continued to co-own and worked everyday at the family business.

Curt was a lifetime member of SD Ironsmith and Weldors Association, active in the Second Presbyterian Church, loved to craft jewelry and many other items from Pipestone rock and enjoyed square dancing later in life. Curt was known for his innovations and ideas he developed throughout his many years in the welding business. He donated many hours to projects in Flandreau.

Curt is survived by his 3 children: Lisa (Chris) Mueller, Volga, SD, Cynthia Gibson, Garretson, SD, Jeffrey (Kathy) Weigel, Flandreau; 4 grandchildren: Patrick Dunham, Joshua (Allie) Mueller, Curtis Mueller, Jessica (Jordon) Clary; 2 great-grandchildren, Landon and Sophie Mueller; sister Rudella "Rudie" Eberlein, longtime friend Joyce Lagge, niece Kristine Rupp and nephew Tom Eberlein. Curt was preceded in death by his wife Linda (January 11, 1993), parents, Rudy and Stella and his brother-in-law Melvin Eberlein.

Private family services will be held with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau.
