Clair David Collins, age  89 of Brookings, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the United Living Community under hospice care.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 A.M. at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau also on Tuesday.  We will process from Skroch Funeral Chapel to Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church leaving around 10:25 A.M.

Clair was born June 6, 1934, in Flandreau, SD, to Clarence and Florence (McMahon) Collins, the fifth of their six children. He grew up on the family farm in Moody County, attended the nearby country school for his elementary education, and then attended and graduated from Egan High School in Egan, SD, in 1952.

Following high school graduation, Clair served in the United States Army, then spent most of his career farming in Moody and Brookings Counties, before working for the Brookings Parks and Recreation department, from which he retired.

Clair was a quiet and unassuming man who enjoyed hunting in his younger days, and enjoyed watching sports on television. He will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Florence Collins; siblings, Edward Collins, James Collins, and Sister Alicia Collins.

He is survived by his brother Robert Collins of Brookings, sister Audrey Amundson, of Eagan, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
