Charles William Marquardt, 63 of Elkton, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at White Healthcare Center, White, SD. Charles was born July 11, 1945 at Tyler, MN to William and Emma (Hartwig) Marquardt. He attended and graduated from Elkton High School. Following graduation Charles worked at SDSU in Brookings and then enlisted in the Navy. After his discharge he returned to Elkton and owned Marquardt Greenhouse and worked various jobs in the Elkton area. Charles did custodial work at Elkton Public School for over 10 years. He served as the church organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton for 35 years and also as the accompanist for the church choir. Charles was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Charles is survived by 1 sister, Arlene (Adelbert) Kiecksee, Flandreau; a niece, Carol Kiecksee, Flandreau and 1 nephew, Melvin Kiecksee, Ward. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Marquardt.
Funeral services are Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Monday, July 6, 2009 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton.
