Charles C. Kontz, 77, of Volga, SD passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at his rural farm home. Charles was born November 28, 1945, at Elkton, SD to Raymond, Sr. and Ida (Hamer) Kontz. He attended country school and later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on December 27, 1963. He served in Vietnam and was discharged November 4, 1966. Charles spent most of his life trucking and married Joyce Lokkeberg. He was a long-haul trucker for over 40 years and in 2016 sold his last truck. Charles moved to a farm south of Lake Campbell 20 years ago. He loved visiting with his marine buddies and would travel to visit them.

Charles is survived by five siblings, Shirley (Red) Illian, Brookings, SD; Ray, Jr. (Susan) Kontz, Brookings; Pete (Alyce) Kontz, Colman, SD; LeRoy (Ardyce) Kontz, Madison, SD; Linda Nielsen, Sinai, SD; three stepdaughters, Lori Anderson, Rapid City, SD; Lynn Darnall, Brookings; and Larae Waldron, Kansas. Charles was preceded by his wife Joyce, parents, sister Barbara Poppen, and three brothers-in-law, LeRoy Nielsen, Richard Nielsen, and Edward Poppen.

Visitation will be 11:00 – 1:00 pm Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Elkton, SD.
