Carolyn A. Hammer, 62, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Riverview Manor. She was born on August 21, 1946 at Pipestone to Carl and Isabelle (Lee) Olson. She graduated from Egan Public School in 1965 and then graduated from Stewart's School of Hairstyling in 1966. She worked at Shear Magic Hair Salon in Flandreau. Carolyn married Walter (Mike) Hammer on November 7, 1970 in Flandreau. She worked at the Personal Touch until she was diagnosed with MS in 1992. She worked as a hairdresser at Skroch Funeral Chapel for many years. Her husband preceded her in death on April 28, 1985. She moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living on July 21, 2006 and became a resident at Riverview Manor on October 10, 2008. Carolyn was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA, was a former church choir member and Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by a son, Kevin (Shari) Hammer, Egan; 2 stepdaughters, Marlene (Tim) Olson, Tea, Sandy (Wes) Harris, Flandreau; 5 grandchildren, Sydney, Addyson, Royce, Chantel and Jason; four great-grandchildren, Veronica, Amanda, Mary Louise and Preston; a brother, Dan (Marda) Olson, Flandreau and 4 sisters, Gwen Haupert, Pipestone, MN, Charlotte (Richard) Bothwell, Lake Madison, Marian Horr, Sioux Falls, Margaret (Duane) Letcher, Lake Madison; two sisters-in-law, JoAnne Olson, Brookings and Joan Olson, Escondido, CA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, her parents, stepfather, Quentin Ellefson and 2 brothers, Lee and Jerry.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 13, 2009, 11:00 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau, with burial at Lone Rock Cemetery, rural Flandreau. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with the family present from 5 – 7 pm and a 7 pm prayer service.
