Obituary

Carol Lee Ellefson, 87, of Flandreau, SD passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Flandreau. Carol was born November 20, 1933 at home in rural Moody County, SD to Carl and Dena (Albers) Christensen. She attended country school and graduated from Egan High School in 1952. Carol attended a one year program in Minneapolis to receive her lab tech certification. She moved to Dell Rapids, SD and worked at the hospital. Carol married Walter Ellefson on January 23, 1954. Together with Walter they had two children, Michael and Diane, and farmed in Moody County.  Her husband preceded her in death on January 10, 2014. Carol moved off the family farm in 2017. She was a current member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Taught Sunday school, was a member of ladies aid at Messiah and Lone Rock Lutheran Churches, was a 4-H leader of Pleasant Valley Club, and a Moody County Historical Society board member. Carol was very active in helping a refugee family from Laos that settled in Dell Rapids. She was a member of the Lone Rock Historical Church Board and Lone Rock Cemetery Board. Carol enjoyed genealogy research – she helped many families learn of their family heritage.

Carol is survived by her son Michael (Jackie) Ellefson, Flandreau; daughter Diane (Alan) Blankenfeld, Trent; grandchildren, Bryan (Skyler) Ellefson, West Point, NE; Bethany Ellefson (Brady Giannangel), Mackay, AU; Peter (Erica) Blankenfeld, Sioux Falls; Adam Blankenfeld (Samantha Fite), La Vernia, TX; and Carly (Jeremy) Hanson, Bethel, ME; great-grandchildren, Taelor, M'Kinleigh, Jakob, Jack, Vianne, Henry, and Renate; and two brothers, Lowell (Myra) Christensen, Trent, SD; and Roger (Karen) Christensen, Gravois Mills, MO.  Carol was preceded in death by her husband Walter, parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and Wes Van Daalen.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau, with burial in Lone Rock Lutheran Cemetery, rural Flandreau. Live stream will be available on Carol's obituary page at www.skrochfc.com . Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 pm Friday with a 4:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
