Obituary

Carol Mae Anderson, 75, died Friday, September 17, 2010 at her home. She was born June 26, 1935 at Dell Rapids to Henry and Elva Mae (Robey) Crisp. She graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1953 and was married to Allen Anderson on April 4, 1954 at Bethania Lutheran Church. Carol was a homemaker until she began work with the Birth to 3 Program and Interagency Coordination Council providing early care for children with developmental disabilities. She started working at SDSU in 1996 when she helped start the Family Nutrition Program in South Dakota. Along with caring for so many who took part in her nutrition classes, Carol mentored other extension workers and loved working with 4-H youth. When she wasn't working as a nutrition educator, Carol managed bookkeeping for the family farm and was a Mary Kay consultant. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and WELCA and served on several church committees, Pork Producers, election board, an active member of the Child Protection Team in Moody County for 10 years and a board member of Community Counseling Services. Carol loved her dogs, reading, gardening, flowers, sewing, baking and cooking. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and was known for making some of the best pies in the world, especially her strawberry pie.

Carol is survived by her husband, Allen; two sons, Jeff (Sandy) Anderson and Brian (Betty) Anderson, both of Flandreau; four grandchildren, Abby, Jesse (Kari), Jeremy, Mitchell (Chelsey) ; and six siblings, Barbara Schultz, Aberdeen, Brent (Carol) Hart, Highlands Ranch, CO, Bruce (Dixie) Hart, Gilbert, AZ, Shirley Hart, Sioux Falls, Sheila Hart, Sioux Falls and Kenny Crisp, Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death her parents and a brother, Terry.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Flandreau with burial in Stordahl Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery, Dell Rapids. Visitation begins at 5:00 pm Tuesday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
