C. Bruce Chamberlin, 94, Flandreau, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at Riverview Health Services in Flandreau. He was born on June 4, 1919 at Flandreau, SD to Thomas R. and Hazel (Moon) Chamberlin. He was christened Clarence but never used the name. He had one brother Charles and a sister Marian, preceding him and later were born 3 sisters, Frances, Wilma (aka Molly) and Hazel Fern. The Chamberlin children grew up on the family farm which had been homesteaded by Grandfather Charles Austin Chamberlin in 1877. All attended Chamberlin rural school Dist. 27, which was situated only a quarter mile from home. Bruce attended Egan High School and in 1939 attended State College in Brookings for one semester. On June 30, 1942, Bruce married Dorothea E. Rahn in Flandreau, SD. They had three children, Charles Bruce, Susan Lee and Kay. They continued to live on the Chamberlin farm. Over the years he taught Sunday School at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, was a deacon there, spent several years as clerk of the local school board, spent four years as Republican representative from Moody and Lake Counties, was a long time member of the Egan Coop Elevator Board, was a member of the Federal Land Bank, and served on the advisory board of the Omaha Federal Land Bank. He later was a member and then chairman of the SD ASCS for 4 years. Bruce was a charter board member of the Flandreau Jaycees. Following cardiac surgery in April of 1983, he and his wife retired to Sioux Falls where they volunteered for various organizations, primarily First Lutheran and Sioux Valley (Sanford) Hospital. Bruce and Dorothea were awarded the Jefferson Award in 1991. Due to health issues they lived with Susan in Sioux Falls from 2003 until August of 2013 when they moved to Riverview Manor in Flandreau. His passions were learning, history and doing what needed to be done. He was a truly good man.

Bruce is survived by his wife Dorothea, two daughters, Susan Lee Chamberlin, Sioux Falls, Kay (Jim) Brown, Omaha, 2 grandsons, Charles "Mac" (Jessica) Scofield, Sioux Falls, Thomas (Stephanie) Scofield, Miami, FL, 3 great-grandsons, Jack, Gabe and Sam, two sisters, Molly (Ken) Gross, Pullman, WA, Fern (Bob) Martinson, Seattle, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Charles, parents, brother Charles and two sisters, Marian and Frances.

Services will be Saturday, March 1, 2014, 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00-7:00 pm Friday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
