Obituary

Bruce Neale Kinner passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024 at Avera Tyler Hospital at the age of 91. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 16, 2024 at United Parish of Elkton in Elkton, SD. Family present visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2024 also at United Parish of Elkton.

Bruce was born February 11, 1933 to Reuben and Edna (Motter) Kinner in Lake Benton, MN. He graduated from Lake Benton Public School in 1951.

While attending Bible School, sixth grader Alice Hartwig told her mom "I'm going to marry that boy" and that is exactly what happened October 25, 1953.

In March 1955, he was drafted into the Army where he and Alice were stationed in Fort Sill, OK until Bruce was honorably discharged in 1957. He and Alice returned to the family farm where they milked cows and raised crops until he retired in the mid-1980s.

Bruce was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He had immense passion for his family, football (go Vikings), enjoyed hunting, and was a skilled card player. Bruce often volunteered at the Lake Benton American Legion and was a long-time member of the United Parish Church of Elkton.

Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Bradley Kinner, Mounds View, MN and Brian (Michelle) Kinner, Apache Junction, AZ, sister Bernita Crapser, Sioux Falls, SD, long-time companion Jean Lichtsinn, seven grandchildren, Bayley (Darren) Schluter, Braxton Kinner, Zoe Kinner, Nick Draper, Brooke Draper, Lexi (Jon) Kramer and Dylan (Katie) Wurzberger and seven great-grandchildren;  and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers Calvin Kinner and Kenneth Kinner, sister Shirley Forrester, beloved wife Alice, daughter Brenda Wurzberger, and infant baby Ellie Kinner.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them. If you knew him, you knew it. He will be missed dearly.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Lake Benton American Legion Post #10 in lieu of flowers.
