Beverly Whaley, 64, of Flandreau, SD, passed away at her home on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD. A visitation service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau.
Bev was born April 30, 1961, in Watertown, Wisconsin, to Arvin and Anne (Kaiser) Bjerke. As the youngest of three children, she is survived by her older sibling, Jean “Babe” (Arnold) Berg, and preceded in death by her older brother, John Bjerke, both of Flandreau. She was raised in Toronto, SD, and went to Deubrook HS. She married Duane Whaley on November 12, 1977, in Flandreau, SD. She raised three children: David (Lynsey) Whaley, Scotty Whaley (Jill Anding), and Candi (Mike) Morphew. She had four grandchildren, each of whom had a special place in her heart: Gavin Morphew, Riley Morphew, Kenley Whaley, and Kieran Whaley.
Her working years were primarily at Eaton Dakota and John Morrell. She also volunteered at the Wholeness Center and would lend a helping hand to the crew of Allen Steel. She developed many friendships over the years. She loved restoring furniture, had a knack for hanging wallpaper, and enjoyed decorating on a budget. She was definitely a person you wanted by your side. She was as tough as they come, fighting stage IV lung cancer for six years. She was very resourceful and could make it through the hard times. She was quick-witted, fiercely protective of the people she loved, and could tell a great story. She was always there to lend an ear, give advice, or just be a shoulder to cry on. The home she made was welcoming and a place where people came together and felt safe and comfortable. A great many people found comfort and support from her over the years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arvin and Anne, and her brother, John. She is survived by her sister, Jean “Babe”; her husband of nearly 49 years, Duane; her three children, David, Scotty, and Candi; and her grandchildren, Gavin, Riley, Kenley, and Kieran, along with many other extended family members. She will be missed by all who knew her well and are grateful for the time we had with her in our lives.
