IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arvin C.
Schultz
January 5, 1936 – February 4, 2010
Arvin C. Schultz, 74, entered the gates of Heaven on February 4, 2010 at his home in Homosassa, Fl. He was born January 5, 1936 in Wentworth, SD to Charles E. and Alvina (Potas) Schultz. Arvin was a longtime resident of Jackson, MN (1967-1997) and most recently of Dunnellon, FL (1997-present).
Arvin was baptized on Jan. 26, 1936, and later confirmed as a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Flandreau, SD. He attended Spafford Elementary and Flandreau High Schools, graduating in1954. Arvin graduated with a B.S. in education from South Dakota State College in Brookings, SD, in 1958, then taught and coached in Jackson, MN, from 1959-1962. He worked in the insurance industry since 1962, first for Travelers in St. Paul and Fargo, ND, then for First National Bank in Jackson, MN, which hired him to open its first insurance office. After purchasing that agency from the bank in 1989, he retired as owner of Schultz Insurers in 1996. He and his wife, Beverly, co-owned the Quik Stop Family Restaurant in Jackson from 1974-1979. When retirement didn't suit him, Arv worked around the U.S. for the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) from 1994 until 2008.
As a young man, Arvin was a member of the South Dakota and then Minnesota National Guards, earning the rank of 2nd Lieutenant via the Minnesota Military Academy. He received the Jackson Jaycee's "Outstanding Young Man" Award in 1972, and served as mayor of Jackson from 1977-1982. His civic contributions included active offices in Jackson's Masonic Lodge, Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, Jackson Development Corporation, the board of directors of Minnesota Independent Insurance Agents, and several church boards.
Arvin enjoyed his family (especially his grandchildren and great-grandson), traveling with Bev, woodworking, gardening, yard work, playing cards, "big boy toys," motorcycling, snowmobiling, and dogs, including his "granddogs," Snickers and Alvin. He found great comfort in his faith throughout his life.
Grateful for having shared his life are: his wife of 53 years, Beverly (Scofield), Homosassa, FL; daughter, Julie Schultz Brown (Mike), St. Paul, MN; son, Scott Charles (Pam), Homosassa, FL; AFS daughter, Anne Fulwood, Sydney, Australia; grandchildren, Maxwell Charles (Liz) Schultz, Caroline Schultz Brown, Elizabeth ("Lily") Kennedy Brown, and Simon Emory Brown, all of St. Paul; and great-grandson, Samuel Charles Schultz, son of Max and Liz; sisters, Mary (Jerry) Oliver, Rochester, MN; Ruth (Tom) Ludgate, Sioux Falls; Anna Mae Fish, Alexandria, VA and Janet (Karl) Evers, Nampa, ID.
