Arnold Klosterman, 91, formerly of Elkton, SD passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. He was born March 3, 1921 in Elkton, SD to Charles and Elizabeth (Bentz) Klosterman. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School. Arnie married Helen Schmidt on April 29, 1941 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton. He entered the Army Air Force serving during WWII. They moved to Sioux Falls and Arnie worked at Fenn's for three years. They moved to Elkton in 1945 and he worked for his brother Myles as a mechanic. In 1953, they purchased the Elk Cafe and later sold the cafe and purchased Helen's Rec. They lived in Elkton most of their married life until 1999 when they moved to Brookings, SD. His wife preceded him in death on May 6, 2004. Arnie was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Glen Stafford American Legion #198 and was a volunteer fireman for the Elkton Fire Department for 13 years.
Arnie is survived by one daughter Judy (Larry) Stauffer, Hinton, IA; one son Ron (Sue) Klosterman, Volga; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; his parents; five brothers, Hilary, Charles, Gerald, Russell and Myles and one sister Marjorie Fjerstad.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, August 31, 2012 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Elkton, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton, with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
