Arlene D. Nelson, 88, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Terrace Manor, Dell Rapids. Arlene was born on April 13, 1921 in Gann Valley, SD to Jack and Rose (Herrlein) Johnson. She attended school in Gann Valley and graduated from Kimball High School. She worked in the CC Camps in Chamberlain following graduation. She married Ed Nelson on October 11, 1940. They moved to the west coast for a number of years while Ed was in the Navy. They moved back and farmed in the Colman area. Ed preceded her in death. Arlene worked at the truck stop for a number of years cooking and baking her famous pies.

Arlene is survived by 3 children, Jean Dodge, Inwood, IA, Jim Nelson, Fort Meyers, FL, Jan (Tom) Becker, Colman; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents and 7 siblings.


Private family services will be held. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman.
