Alvin Duffert, 86, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Ava's Hospice House, Sioux Falls. Alvin was born September 11, 1932 in Flandreau, SD to Nantke and Hilda (Weets) Duffert. He attended a Moody County school and started farming with his father. He served in the army from 1955 – 1957. Alvin married Gertrude Schurman on March 1, 1960 at Garretson, SD. He rejoined the National Guard in 1977 and after 20 years he retired. Alvin continued to farm until 1982. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1983 and drove cab for a couple of years and worked for John Morrell's for many years. After retiring, Alvin continued with his rental properties. He was a lifetime member of Lone Rock, served on the counsel and was church secretary. Alvin was a 4-H leader for many years and loved to garden.
Alvin is survived by three children, John (Cindy) Duffert, Flandreau; Karen (Dave) Viste, Sioux Falls; Debbi (Daren) Feenstra, Corsica; six grandchildren, Bob, Heather and Michael Viste; Kylee, Dalton and Cole Feenstra; two step-grandchildren, Jeremie (Marcia) Houtman; Stefanie (Darrel) Bonrud; two great-grandchildren, Esther and Elisha Viste; and five step-great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Ethan and Miley Houtman; and Hope and Addison Bonrud. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and an infant daughter.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, May 6, 2019 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau, with burial at Lone Rock Cemetery, rural Flandreau. Visitation is 4:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday with a 6:00 pm prayer service.
