Alice A. DeBoer, 106, of Corsica, SD entered her eternal home on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 while residing at Riverview Health Services in Flandreau, SD. Alice was born November 8, 1906 near New Holland, SD to Janis and Jennie (DeLange) Sluiter. She was the eldest of six children. As a child, she attended rural schools. Her first two years of high school were at Grundy Center Iowa Academy and her last two years were at Corsica High School. She went on to attend Southern State Teachers' College in Springfield. Alice was a dedicated teacher in Douglas County for over 34 years. On June 5, 1931 she married John W. DeBoer and they remained life-long residents of Corsica, where they were members of the Christian Reformed Church. Alice taught Sunday School for many years, attended Dorcas Society and the Coffee Break Bible study group. She was active in the Priscilla Club, the Corsica Public Library, and was active in the 2-D Extension Club. Alice will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, a dedicated teacher, a gracious hostess, an avid reader and an extraordinary story teller. She enjoyed traveling, singing, playing Chinese Checkers, baking bread and apple pies, and working in her flower gardens. Faith and family were of utmost importance to her.

She is survived by two daughters: Mary Jane (Warren) Ludeman of Flandreau, SD and Ella Mae (James) Streelman of Anaheim Hills, CA; seven grandchildren: Todd (Mary) Ludeman, Lisa (Jeff) Martz, Amy (Pete) Woehnker, Chad (Corrine) Streelman, Barry (Karla) Streelman, Trisha (Brandon) Back, and Tara (Greg) VandenBerg; fifteen great-grandchildren: Ben, Emily (Joel), Amanda, Kaisa, Austin, Katelyn, Carson, Dakota, Jack, Jenna, Devon, Donavan, Clayton, Paisley, and Greyson, two great-great grandchildren: Makiah and Mason and a sister-in-law Margaret Sluiter. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, an infant son, James Lee, her parents and siblings Adrian, Henrietta, Stella, Cora, and William.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 10:30 at the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica, SD with Rev. Jerry Buwalda officiating. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. There will be visitation from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, July 9, at Koehn Brothers Funeral Home in Corsica, SD.
