Alene M. Duncan, 87, of Flandreau died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Riverview Manor in Flandreau. Alene was born November 4, 1921 in Muscatine, IA to Ralph and Harriet (Cullen) Othmer. She grew up and attended school in Muscatine, IA, Chillicothe, MO and Flandreau, SD. Alene worked as a court reporter and secretary for many different service organizations in Washington, DC, Los Angeles, CA and Rivers, AZ. She married to Lloyd Duncan of Flandreau, SD on April 26, 1945 in Chandler, AZ. They lived in Flandreau and wintered in Lake Havasu, AZ. Her husband preceded her in death on February 25, 1996 and Alene continued her summers in Flandreau and winters in Lake Havasu. Alene was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Altar Society and she enjoyed playing bridge and attending dances.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Thomas (Carole) Duncan, Surprise, AZ, Ann Duncan-Yonan, Chicago, IL, Scott (Brenda) Duncan, Flandreau and Jason Duncan, River Forest, IL; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly (Greg) Gullickson, Shanna (Jordan) Olson, Tommy Duncan, Jeremy Yonan, Amanda Duncan-Means, Angela (Austin) Hobbie, Elizabeth Yonan, Krista Duncan, Calla Duncan, James Yonan and Kendra Duncan; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Mackenzie and Carter Gullickson, Mataya Olson and Braylon Hobbie. Alene was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; daughter, Chris; parents and one brother, Richard Thomas Othmer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 PM prayer service.
