Obituary

Alden Thomas Schoeberl, 67, of McAlester formerly of Colman, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at his home. Alden was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Mitchell, S.D., to Ambrose Robert and Veronica (Bornhorst) Schoeberl. After high school, he worked with his dad on the family farm. Next, he worked as a surveyor in Minneapolis and later worked for the South Dakota Highway Department then was followed by a successful 35 year career with Schwan's Sales, working in Minnesota and Kansas, retiring in 2000 as a regional sales manager. During his years with Schwan's Sales, he worked with many aspects of the corporation and became lifelong friends with his co-workers. He married Roberta Emily Swee on Jan. 14, 1966, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They moved to McAlester in 2000 when he retired. Alden was a member and past president of the Optimist Club and a member of St. John's Catholic Church, McAlester. He enjoyed hunting and played golf almost every day, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Alden is survived by his wife, Roberta Schoeberl, McAlester, OK; one daughter and son-in-law, Richelle and Dr. Brent Miller, of McAlester, OK; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Darin Schoeberl, Shakopee, MN, Justin and Lori Schoeberl, Victoria, MN, Greg Schoeberl, Shakopee, MN, six grandchildren, Jordan Banks, Micah Miller, Allyssa Banks, Chandler Banks, Alexis Banks and Ella Schoeberl; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Janet Schoeberl, Richland Center, WI, Milton and Sharon Schoeberl, Caledonia, MN, Mark and Shirley Schoeberl, Lovington, N.M., his twin brother, Allen and Doris Schoeberl, St. Joseph, MO, and Roger and Donna Kay Schoeberl, Flandreau, SD, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Denny Welbig, Brookings, SD, Judy and Dan Dahl, Madison, SD, and Jane and Reg Nordquist, Sioux Falls, SD; in-laws, Sheridan and Gail Swee, Beresford, SD, and Kendal and Kay Swee, Beresford, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Erling and Frances Swee; a brother James Schoeberl, and a grandson, Taylor Robert Banks.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, Colman with burial at St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will begin Monday at 5:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman with at rosary at 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to a memorial fund set up in his name, Alden Schoeberl Scholarship Fund.
