LaVerne E. Anderson

LaVerne Anderson, 76 of Brookings, formerly of Ward, SD died Tuesday December 18, 2012 at Brookview Manor in Brookings. LaVerne was born October 11, 1936 at Haynes, ND to Edwin and Carrie (Christman) Anderson. In 1940 they moved to a farm four miles southwest of Ward, SD where Vern went to Fletcher Country School and he graduated from Flandreau High School in 1956. While at home he helped his dad and brothers with the farm work. After graduation he worked for a construction company and helped build a concrete bridge two miles south of the farm. Later he joined his brother LeRoy in Chicago where he worked in a camera factory. Then he worked making leather gloves until he started work for United Air Lines at O’Hare Airport. He married in 1962 and raised three children living in Des Plaines and later Arlington Heights, IL. After his Dad’s death in 1988, he moved in with his mother to care for her. He retired in 1999 and returned to Flandreau and later moved to Brookings. LaVerne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ward and enjoyed fishing and was good at woodworking. He always had a passion for cars and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Bulls. He liked to listen to early Rock and Roll and Country music.

Vern is survived by three children, Lonnie (Alicia), Mundelein, IL, Tami Anderson, Libertyville, IL, Stacy Anderson, Wauconda, IL, two grandsons, Ben and Zach, a granddaughter Haley and three brothers, LeRoy, Ward, SD, Leon, McHenry, IL and Larry, Ward, SD. Vern was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ward, SD, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, SD.
