Venita V. Sutherland, age 89, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home, Pipestone. Venita was born January, 23, 1923 at Freemansburg WV to Claude and Martha (Gall) Burnside. She received her education in Weston, WV and moved to Akron, OH in 1940 where she worked in an airplane parts factory as a clerk. Venita moved to Baltimore, MD and she worked at a glass factory. She married George Sutherland on March 11, 1944 in Baltimore and returned to Weston while George was in the service. In 1946 they moved to southeast Moody County and Venita worked at the Flandreau Creamery where she candled eggs then Pepsi-cola in Pipestone and later at Hardee’s and Dari-Queen. George preceded her in death on April 24, 2004. She was a member of Peace United Methodist Church, Pipestone and formerly Lone Rock Lutheran Church.
She is survived by 7 children: Milton (Laurette) and Roger, both of Chicopee, MA, Gary (June), Pipestone, Paul (Peggy), Brandon, Candy (Jim) Whipple, Pipestone, Barry (Lori), Sioux Falls, Janet (Arlan) Spronk, Holland, MN, 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, granddaughter, Gina, parents, brother Don and a sister Thalia. Celebration of life will be Thursday, Dec 20, 2012 at 11:00 am at Peace United Methodist Church, Pipestone, MN with burial at Lone Rock Cemetery. Visitation from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
