Karen L. Eikmeier, 75, passed away December 11, 2012 at Riverview Health Services, Flandreau, SD. Karen was born October 24, 1937 in Moody County, SD to Kermit and Bethel (McFarland) Thielsen. She attended Tidd Country School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1955. Karen attended nursing school at SDSU in Brookings and married Glen Eikmeier on August 9, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Flandreau. They moved to the Eikmeier family farm where she raised their family. Her husband preceded her in death on December 24, 2010. Karen was an active member of the United Methodist Church, UMW and was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She was a Pipestone County 4-H leader and a 4-H Fair judge. She was a member of the American Angus Association Auxiliary and SD and MN Angus Association Auxiliaries. Karen was President of the American Angus Auxiliary and scholarship chairperson. She enjoyed being active in the Trent Area Extension Hobbie Club. Karen loved traveling with Glen and going to auctions and yard sales.
Karen is survived by four children, Gary (Kathy), Pipestone, Linda (Mark) Goetz, Egan, Alan (Terra), Pipestone, Mary (Tim) Schmidt, Hawarden, IA, 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Grady, Melissa, Kristin, Lea, Leslie, Anna, Ty, Kara, Callie, one great-granddaughter Lillianna and one brother Lonnie (Nina Sue) Thielsen, Flandreau. Karen was preceded in death by her husband Glen, parents and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, December 14, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Flandreau with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
